Blank page sparks violent protests

NEW YORK: Protests by atheists turned violent in front of the offices of the New York Times newspaper today.

More than 15,000 atheists from across the country descended on the New York Times building to express their disgust and offense at a blank page that was printed in the Monday edition of the newspaper.

Said one protester: "The news media is taking freedom of the press too far. We are joining thousands of Muslims in exercising our right to protest when a newspaper prints an image that represents our cherished beliefs."

The New York protests mirror the world-wide protests by Muslims against the printing of cartoons depicting their Prophet by a Danish newspaper.

The atheists' protests turned violent after reporters started scratching notes on their blank reporter's notebook pages.

"We came here to peacefully express our disgust with the insensitivity of the New York Times," one of the protest organizers said.

"You cannot blame a highly emotionally charged crowd for killing ten reporters after they added insult to injury. Setting fire to the NYT building was simply a natural progression of events," he continued.

The protesters calmed down after an explosion on the fifth floor of the building sent thousands of blank newspaper pages fluttering down into the street.

The protesters were seen leaving the scene, each clutching an icon of their belief in their hands.

The writing above by Duplex Dude is a fine funny send-up of serious matters regarding which refWrite has been oh-so ponderous in the past few months, and probably will continue to be into the foreseeable future, a counterpoint that thereby merits the refWrite 1st Annual Award for Excellence in Satire on a subject about which we've had trouble seeing any l+ter s+d. Especially amusing in l+t of the fact that by far the the worst terrorism and violence of human history has been perpetrated not by Muslims, Christians or Jews–but by atheists of the Darwinian doctrine under Hitler and atheists of the Marxist-Leninist-Stalinist doctrine of the Soviets. Should we throw in a wee spicing of Mao and Pol Pot?

So what we come down to in the scenario of the Dude is an advanced case of historical erasure, and the sharing of the negation of images in both Islam and atheism. Two iconclastic religions, both sporting many denominations as we have all been so tediously informed since 9/11/2k1. But, hey, it's still real good satire that the Dude has so cleverly served up, providing a momentary interlude of amused forgetfulness about what's really been goin' on. - Anaximander
