REJOICE AND SHOUT A documentary history of African-American gospel music, directed by Don McGlynn.
SUBMARINE Richard Ayoade (Moss on the British sitcom “The IT Crowd”) wrote and directed this British coming of age story, about a 15-year-old (Craig Roberts) who isn’t happy to see his mother (Sally Hawkins) welcoming a former lover (Paddy Considine) back into her life.
X-MEN FIRST CLASS Matthew Vaughn, the director of the cult favorite “Kick-Ass,” refreshes the aging X-Men franchise with an origin tale for Professor X (played as a young man by James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender). TROLLHUNTER Learning that a government conspiracy has kept the truth about trolls from the Norwegian public, a group of film students sets out to uncover the facts. André Ovredal directed.
VIVA RIVA! A first feature, directed by Djo Tunda Wa Munga, from Congo; it’s set in the chaos of Kinshasa, where a small-time gangster (Patsha Bay Mukana) returns to his hometown with a fortune made in black market gasoline and an eye for a crime lord’s beautiful mistress (Manie Malone).

A BETTER LIFE Demián Bichir as an undocumented immigrant from Latin America who tries to keep his teenage son away from the gangs of East Los Angeles while organizing his own gardening business. With José Julián, Dolores Heredia and Joaquín Cosío; Chris Weitz directed.
CARS 2 John Lasseter and Brad Lewis co-directed this 3-D sequel to the Pixar computer-animated feature of 2006, about a bunch of anthropomorphized automobiles; this time, the sports car Lightning McQueen (with the voice of Owen Wilson) and his tow-truck, blue-collar buddy Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) travel to Europe and Japan to race and fight spies. The voice cast now includes Michael Caine,Jason IsaacsEmily MortimerBruce Campbell, John Turturro, Eddie Izzard, Franco Nero and Tony Shalhoub.
CONAN O’BRIEN CAN’T STOP The very tall comedian embarks on a two-month tour of the United States after being relieved of his duties as the host of “The Tonight Show” in a documentary directed by Rodman Flender.
THE NAMES OF LOVE From France, the tale of a free-spirited young woman (Sara Forestier) who converts conservatives to liberalism by sleeping with them, until she hits a roadblock with a recalcitrant scientist (Jacques Gamblin). Michel Leclerc directed.
RAW FAITH William Peter Wiedensmith’s documentary is centered on Marilyn Sewell, a minister who leaves her church in search of personal emotional fulfillment.
THE TREE In rural Australia, an 8-year-old girl (Morgana Davies) comes to believe that the spirit of her dead father inhabits a giant fig tree near her house. With Charlotte Gainsbourg; Julie Bertucelli (“Since Otar Left”) directed.
