Dazed Digital: What would be your mission statement with Erased Tapes?
Robert Raths: I feel like an explorer that comes home from a long trip to bring back exotic spices in the shape of new music. Everyone should be able to relate to this sensation, when you first experience something otherworldly. Once you’ve discovered it, you just can’t imagine life without it. Or as Oliver Wendell Holmes once said: ‘A mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.’ And it’s a feeling that I’d like to share. Because I always fear that otherwise this music might remain undiscovered.

DD: With the different acts that feature there’s timelessness to the music, is that an immediate feeling you get from your artists?
Robert Raths: Sure. I guess it’s the way I read music. I look out for the little things. Mostly the gaps in-between the lines, consciously left blank so that people have room to let their imagination run free.

DD: Do you consider yourself a young label? I say that because it seem that you approach the label with a certain young, DIY ethos mixed with an older school aesthetic?
Robert Raths: I think the label has a bit of a DIY character due to the fact that I never planned on running one. My background lies in architecture. It somehow works as I’m used to developing many aspects within one project – treating every single one of them with the same attention and enthusiasm. As for the old school aesthetic, all I can say is that I’m a very hands-on person when it comes to packaging. I definitely believe that there’s still value in physical things, like letters, books, papers, records, something tangible. At the same time I’ve always embraced new technologies and ways of communicating. I believe in the fusion of the traditional and digital.

FIFA allows Mexico to replace suspended players

Mexico will be able to replace those suspended five players for the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

FIFA and CONCACAF will allow El Tri to replace the five players who were suspended by the Mexican Football Federation for testing positive for banned substances last week.

FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke said on Thursday that the Mexicans will be allowed to replace the five players. That included starting goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and defender Francisco Rodriguez and Antonio (Sinha) Naelson, Edgar Dueñas and Christian Bermúdez.

“There’s a certain level of drug in the bloodstream and FIFA’s decision to agree with WADA [the World Anti-Doping Agency] is that that these players can’t play at this time,” Valcke said at a press conference in Mexico City. “FIFA will authorize, if [the Mexican federation] so wishes, that the five players be replaced because it’s very difficult to see if this was a question of tainted food or if it was intentional.”

Mexico, which has 17 players on its roster, after right fullback Ricardo Osorio went home due to illness.

The Mexicans play Guatemala in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. ET Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Costa Rica tussles with Honduras in the 5 p.m. opener.

Becoming a father doesn’t necessarily take a lot of talent. But being a good dad – well, that is a tough undertaking. And just when Pop gets it figured out, the kid gets a little older and treats him differently. Or another one comes along and changes up the family dynamics.

Parenthood is actually a rich vein for songwriters to tap, and with Father’s Day upon us, it’s a perfect time to run through some of the best songs that deal with the old man. Some of your favorites might be missing. You could argue, for example, that the Mac Davis song “Watching Scotty Grow” belongs here or that “I Saw God Today” is a better fatherly entry from George Strait than “The Breath You Take.” But hey, that’s what lists are for: starting up a conversation. If you don’t see your favorite on here, let us know what’s missing!

A season that began with Miami celebrating the signings of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh -- along with the promise of championships -- ended on the very same floor, with the Dallas Mavericks hoisting the title trophy for the first time in their franchise history after beating the Heat 105-95 on Sunday night. The Mavericks won four of the series' last five games, a turnabout that could not have been sweeter.

Mavericks star is Dirk Nowitzki; he won the Finals' Most Valuable Player honors.

the U.S. Olympic Committee has asked the International Weightlifting Federation to review its rules after a 35-year old Muslim woman, an Atlanta resident, was disqualified from competing in a national competition in Ohio last December. IWF rules require that athletes wear costumes that are collarless and do not cover the elbows or knees. Weight-lifter Kulsoom Abdullah usually wears loose long pants that extend below her ankles, a long-sleeve fitted shirt with a loose T-shirt over it, and a hijab covering her hair. Modifications create several problems. Judges need to see that the weight lifter’s elbows and knees are locked during the lift. They also need to make certain that the individual is not wearing anything on her elbows that would give her a competitive advantage. The IWF technical committee will review the relevant rules on June 26 at a scheduled meeting in Malaysia. It will present a recommendation to the IWF executive board the next day.

Meanwhile, in Israel, an Orthodox Jewish player on the country’s women’s national basketball team has been disqualified. FIBA Europe, the governing body for European basketball, says that its rules require that all members of a team be dressed alike. Naama Shafir wears a T-shirt under her jersey in order to comply with Jewish religious rules relating to modesty. AP and JTA this week report that FIBA has refused to make an exception for Shafir so she can play in a tournament that opens June 18 in Poland. According to Haaretz, an Israeli appeal of the ruling was rejected on technical grounds. Shafir just completed her college studies in the United States, where she led the University of Toledo (Ohio) team to a Women’s NIT championship. (Background.) Officials had no problem with permitting Shafir to wear the modified uniform when playing in the U.S.

down its biggest sorting facilities. The Toronto and Scarborough locals, which are

Canada Post’s rotating strikes hit the Toronto area at 11:30 p.m. on Monday, shutting down its biggest sorting facilities.

The Toronto and Scarborough locals — among the largest in the country — walked off the job.

That means the mail plant on Eastern Ave. and the parcel sorting plant will be affected for 24 hours.

Also, the Montreal local walked out.

Clearly, the union is hoping to make an impact by having the largest cities affected. According to the union, the move brings the number of striking workers to more than 15,000.

Canada Post had already announced that there will be no home delivery for mail on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the duration of the strike.

National Hockey League: Vancouver Canucks lose a round, thus forcing a 7th Game in the Stanley Cup finals' series. Lasts nite's game was Vancouver 2 - Boston 5.

The Stanley Cup is heading to Vancouver. But it will arrive at Rogers Arena still unclaimed.

The Bruins used a Stanley Cup Final record-setting goal spree to chase Roberto Luongo, and the Bruins forced a winner-take-all Game 7 showdown with a 5-2 win over the Canucks in Game 6.

The setting is entirely set for the closing match between the two champions of North American hockey.

"The final game of the 2010-2011 NHL season goes

Wednesday in Vancouver at 8pm et/5pm pt,

with the winner claiming the Stanley Cup.

"This will be the 16th Stanley Cup Final series that has gone to a Game 7. The home team has won 12 of the previous 15.
